Man killed for `honour`

KOHAT: A man was allegedly killed for honour and his body thrown in a guava orchard in Regi Shinokhel area here on Wednesday, city police said.

They said that one Rasheed Ahmed reported to them that three persons of a family had been accusing his son Fareed of teasing their women. They allegedly shot dead his son and threw his body into an orchard.

Mr Rasheed has nominated Nawaz, Nauroz and Yousuaf in the FIR. The police have arrested Nawaz and are searching for the other accused.

The Junglelchel police, meanwhile, arrested a man for his involvement in several robbery cases in the area. The police raided a house in Sultan Mir Mohallah on Wednesday and arrested Imran who allegedly confessed to his crimes.

The police also claimed to have recovered Rs100,000 cash, three tolas of gold ornaments, three irons, stabilizers and other household items from the house. A case has been registered against him.

DPO APPEALS: District police officer, Kohat, Javed Iqbal has made a desperate appeal to the people forcooperation in identification of drug peddlers in their respective areas to curb the menace.

Talking to this scribe, he said that the police had recovered about 30,000 kilogrammes of hashish in last three months. He also said that unless hemp and poppy cultivation was banned in the tribal areas the menace could not be eliminated.

WOMEN CNICS: Chairing a meeting, Regional election commissioner, Kohat division, Tariq Khan has asked the nazims of 27 village and neighbourhood councils to encourage women in their respective areas to have the computerised national identity card and exercise their right to vote.

He regretted that in 65 blocks of the village and neighborhood councils the ratio of voter registration was below 40 per cent where women constituted 52 per cent of the population.
