Bureau Report 2017-04-13
PESHAWAR: Scores of students of Engineering and Technology University`s Kohat campus on Wednesday demonstrated here against the delay in afHliation of the campus with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).

Holding banners and placards inscribed with demands for the engineering university`s affiliation with the PE C, the protesters shouted slogans against the provincial government for not taking the issue seriously.

Talking to media persons, a students` representative Aziz-ul-Haq said that five batches had completed studies from the UET Kohat campus, but only two batches were approved by the PEC.

The degree holders, he said could not apply for any kind of job without approval of the PEC and same problem was being faced by those intending to pursue advanced studies in relevant technology as per the new rules of the Higher Education Commission.

Mr Haq said that most of the degree holders wanted to get jobs in order to support their families, but they could not do so because their degrees were not recognised. `Most of us have very humble family backgrounds andcan hardly manage to complete our education. In case the PECfurther delays approval of our degrees then there will be no use of education because we are going to become overage,` he lamented.Mr Haq demanded of the provincial government to immediately take up the matter with the PEC. `If the government doesn`t get serious on the matter the only way we have is to announce an agitation drive,` he warned.
