Two suspects injured in another `police encounter` in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Two more suspects were injured in another `encounter` with the police in the capital, while two of their accomplices managed to escape, police said on Saturday.

It was the third police encounter in April and 14th in the current year.

The latest encounter took place in the area of Tarnol police station, where a case has been registered over the incidentundersections 324,353,186, and 34 of PPC and 13 and 20 of the Arms Ordinance.

However, a police statement on their official X account and the content of the FIR contradicted each other.

The statement on X was posted at 12:02am, while the time of the occur-rence of the encounter mentioned in the FIR was 12:15am, suggesting that the statement was posted 13 minutes before the incident.

The capital police on their official X account claimed that an inter-provincial dacoits` gang opened fire on a police vehicle in the area of Tarnol police station. The police foiled the attack and two suspects were injured from the firing of their accomplices.

According to the FIR, a six-member police team under the directives of the senior officers set up a picket at China Factory Road. At around 12:15am, four persons riding a motorcycle were spotted coming towards Tarnol Railway Crossing from Golra Town and were signaled to stop by the police.

Seeing the police, the suspects opened straight firing at the officials. Two of the suspects then fell on the road along with a motorcycle while turning the twowheelers and sustained injures, said the police.

The two other riders escaped from the spot. The police officials remainedunhurt and resorted to firing into the air in self-defence.

Later, the police found the two suspects injured from the firing of their accomplices. The police recovered pistols from their possession.

Earlier, four such incidents took place in which suspects tried to set free their accomplices from the custody of police.

On Feb 12, a suspect arrested by police in connection with a murder case in the area of Nilore police station escaped from police custody. The suspect was in police custody on physical remand and detained at the Banigala police station instead of Nilore station, in whose limits he allegedly had committed the murder.

After his escape, six police officials, including the SHO, were booked.

On Feb 16, a handcuffed suspect arrested in connection with a drug peddling case escaped from custody while being transported to jail. The Khanna police were transporting him to the Adiala jail on judicial remand. On the way to Adiala, they stopped in front of the Koral police station at a photocopyshop, during which the accused slipped his hand out of the handcuffs and escaped.

On Feb 19, an alleged drug dealer escaped from the custody shortly after his arrest. Over the escape, a case was registered at the Sumbal police station under sections 324, 353, 186, 427, 148, and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The police claimed that the suspect arrested from Merabadi near G-11 was freed by over a dozen armed suspects.

Almost a dozen people, including women, armed with knives, axes, batons, and a pistol, attacked the police team and whisked the suspect away from the custody.

On March 3, a suspect arrested in connection with a theft incident registered with Shahzad Town police station in November 2024 also escaped from custody.

In other eight encounters two in the limits of Tarnol, one each at Shahzad Town, Noon, Sumbal, Shalimar, Sabzi Manid and Shams Colony eight suspects were injured while nine escaped.
