KARACHI: The Pakistan-Bharat Agreement on minorities, which was signed by the Prime Ministers of the two countries on April 8, has begun to take practical shape.
The Government of East Pakistan ... yesterday [April 12] announced that the members of the East Pakistan Assembly will meet on April 21 to elect representatives to the minority commission to be set up under Section (F) of the Delhi Agreement. At the same time, the Government of Bharat have also directed the West Bengal Government to take immediate steps to appoint the proposed Minority Commission and a committee to act as trustees of evacuee property.
The West Bengal Government have also been asked by Delhi to set up an agency for the recovery of abducted women and a commission to inquire into the recent happenings, and include in the provincial Cabinet a representative of the minority community.
