Wildlife team prevents locals from hunting boar

MUZAFFARGARH: A wildlife team prevented locals from hunting a wild boar here on Saturday.

Reports said a wild boar had entered the Taunsa Barrage downstream of the Indus, drawing the attention of dozens of local hunters who attempted to force it out and make it fight with their dogs. Some hunters had even transported the dogs by boat in preparation for the fight.

Timely intervention by wildlife officials and local conservationists, including Khadim Hussain Khar of the Sindhu Bachao Tehreek, averted the incident.

Khar, along with others, alerted District Wildlife Officer Abdul Razzaq and former district nazim of Dera Ghazi Khan and ex-MNA, Sardar Jamal Khan Leghari.

In a voice message, Leghari directed wildlife officials to take immediate action.

`No one has the right to hunt wild boars or any animals,` he stated. `I have urged the wildlife department to take strict action against those involved in this act.

District Wildlife Officer Abdul Razzaq confirmed that the matter is under investigationand appropriate steps will be taken.

ACCIDENT: Six passengers suffered injuries when a speeding bus hit a wall of a house along the road near Mondka at Mochiwali Bridge in Shah Jamal police precincts on Saturday.

According to local residents and rescue officials, the bus lost control near the Mochiwali Bridge and rammed into a wall, injuring six people.

Rescue teams provided first aid at the scene to three passengers with minor injuries, while three others were shifted to a nearby hospital.

MURDERED: A man and his mother were murdered during the night in the 1R area under the jurisdiction of Sanawan police station, about 30km from the city. The victim`s wife was also seriously injured in the attack.

Reports said Riaz Hussain and his mother, Sadan Mai, were stabbed to death. Riaz`s wife, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to the hospital.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the killings. Teams have been formed to ensure the arrest of the suspects.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to the hospital for a postmortem examination.
