Death toll in police encounter rises to two

OKARA: The death toll from a shooting encounter on Thursday rose to two as the injured suspect, Riaz, succumbed to his bullet wounds late on Friday at DHQ City Hospital.
Constable Boo Ali Qadri, who was also injured, remains admitted to hospital for treatment.
The Chuchak patrolling police team was alerted that Tariq wanted by Chiniot Saddar police for murder was in village Islampura near the house of narcotics dealer Yaseen. On seeing the police, the outlaws opened fire. As the police retaliated, Yaseen was killed on the spot, while Riaz was shot by their five accomplices who managed to flee.
Police recovered a Kalashnikov and seven bullets from Yaseen. He was linked to over 60 heinous crimes, mostly registered at Chuchak, City, and Renala Saddar police stations.
Riaz, found injured by the roadside, had 18 live bullets. Constable Qadri was also shot, and both he and Riaz were shifted to DHQ City Hospital.
Chuchak police, on the SHO`s report, registered a case against seven suspects, including two unidentified gunmen, who fired indiscriminately at the raiding team and damaged police vans with revolving lights.
The encounter lasted 20-25 minutes. Proclaimed offenders Tariq, Arslan, Adnan (sons of Yaseen), and two others fled under cover. Police recovered a Kalashnikov, seven live bullets, a pump-action shotgun, 18 live bullets from Riaz, and 3.2kg of charas.

The police said the student was returning home when the suspect intercepted her in the village bazaar, forcibly taking her to a hair saloon. Her resistance and cries alerted villagers, causing the suspect to flee.
On her father`s report, Shahbore police registered a case under sections 377B and 511 of PPC. Similarly, in village 14/GD Mujahid Pura, an 8-year-old boy heading to mosque was lured by a suspect to suburban fields and raped.
