WINNEBA (GHANA): President Nkrumah, of Ghana, appealed here to Pakistan and India to settle their territorial dispute peacefully. The President made the appeal during a speech to delegates attending the opening ceremony of the Fourth Afro-Asian Solidarity Conference. He said: `Even though I have, on many occasions appealed for a negotiated settlement, and on many occasions offered my good services, I would like to appeal to Prime Minister Shastri and President Ayub Khan to make another effort at a peaceful settlement between their two sister states.

The conference, to last one week, is being held at the Kwame Nkrumah Ideological Institute here. Referring to what he called the distressing conflict between Indonesia and Malaysia, President Nkrumah said the withdrawal of imperialists from this area was a prior condition to successful peace negotiations. He said neither Malaysia nor Indonesia could afford to divert resources which were sorely needed for development into a conflict so easily avoidable. `I would, therefore, like to appeal once again to my friends, President Soekarno of Indonesia and Prime Minister Tengku Abdul Rahman of Malaysia to start talking around the conference table and bring these conflicts to an end without delay`, he said. Dr Nkrumah stressed that a united Africa under a union Government in solidarity with Asia and Latin America `would be a mighty world influence, with an effective force that could oust imperialism and neo-colonialism`.
