CM discusses GSP Plus modalities with EU team

He said this during a meeting with European Union delegation led by Development and Economic Cooperation Director Marc Vanheukelen here on Tuesday, a handout said.

The chief minister talking to the delegation members expressed deep sense of sorrow and grief over the death of foreign diplomats in Naltar tragedy.

He said awarding GSP Plus status to Pakistan by the EU was resulting in strengthening of the country`s economy.

He said labour department had been given the task of elimination of childlabour from brick kilns within six months.

He said legislation had also been undertaken for the empowerment of women and minorities.

Shahbaz Sharif said women were being given interest-free soft loans on priority basis for starting their own business while 50,000 vehicles were being given to the youth, including women, under a self-employment scheme.

He said thousands of boy and girl students were benefiting from the biggest educational fund set up in the country`s history.

The delegation members said the steps taken in Punjab with regard to GSP Plus status were encouraging and Punjab government was showing an excellent performance under the leadership of Shahbaz Sharif.

Acting head of EU in Pakistan Stefano Gatto and other senior officials were also in the delegation.
