Suicide vest, explosive devices seized in Mansehra

MANSEHRA: Police have seized a suicide vest, six improvised explosive devices and other material from an empty plot adjacent to the residence of an alleged terrorist, who was arrested after killing a man the other day.
`It is a big achievement of police and security agencies as the material could possibly be used in a terrorist attack in the district or any other part of Hazara,` said DIG Akhtar Hayat Khan Gandapur.
He said that a terrorist gang affiliated with a banned outfit was behind all that and one of its members was arrested. Raids were being made for the arrest of others, he added.
The ofHcial said police recovered six explosive devices, suicide waist, two daggers, ballbearings, explosives, detonators, mobile and strips from the plot.
`We got defused the suicide waist and explosive devices after recovering these material from Barkund,` said Mr Gandapur. He said that explosive and suicide jacket could be used in terrorist attack but prompt action taken by police evaded such incident in the district.
`If we could not arrest an active member of the gang such achievement could not be possible but police and security agencies did their best in this episode,` the official said.
The explosives and other material were dumped at the empty plot, adjacent to the house of Umer Hussain Shah, who was arrested after he allegedly killed a man and injured a policeman in College Doraha area of the district on the night between Sunday and Monday.
Mohammad Shahid, who had come from Raheemyar Khan to the district to meet his relatives, was killed in the attack and a policeman Mohammad Afzal sustained critical bullet wounds.
Sources said that Mohammad Shahid and Umer Hussain Shah both belonged to abanned outfit and after developing differences the latter shot dead the former with the help of his accomplice, who managed to escape on a motorbike after the attack.
Police launched a search operation in Barkund area and taken into custody several suspected people for questioning.
CODE Of ETHICS: DSP Balakot Syed Mutloob Shah has asked the contenders and their supporters to follow election code of ethics in the local government polls as violators would be taken to justice under the law.
`The Election Commission of Pakistan has declared 14 polling stations of Balakot sensitive and those who would breach election code of ethics would be dealt with iron hand,` Mr Shah told a press conference in Balakot on Tuesday.
He said that nobody could use loudspeakers and deliver hate speeches. The violators would be sent to prison in Dera Ismail Khan, he added.
The DSP said that firing in the air on the day of polling was strictly forbidden and those, who would violate Section 144 in that regard would also be tal(en to justice under relevant laws.
