Zardari wants strict implementation of NAP

ISLAMABAD: Former president Asif Ali Zardari has called for strict implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) against terrorism.

He was talking to Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F (JUI-F) head Maulana Fazlur Rehman at the latter`s residence here in Islamabad.

Talking to Dawn, Farhatullah Babar, spokesperson for the PPP, said that Mr Zardari had visited the JUI-F chief`s residence to offer his sympathies over the Mastung incident in which several people were killed and JUI-F leader and deputy chairman Senate Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri was injured.

Mr Babar said Mr Zardari expressed his resolve that the PPP would continue its struggle to fight against terrorism.

He said that both leaders were in agreement that NAPshould be implemented in its letter and spirit to fight against the menace of terrorism.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Iqbal, father of Mardan University student Mashal Khan, called on the former president at Zardari House in Islamabad on Friday evening.

Mr Zardari appreciated a calm and composed Iqbal Khan by saying that the PPP was with the family of Shaheed Mashal Khan in this hour of grief.

He said that the incident was inhumane and most unfortunate.

The former president also expressed concerns over the f act the real culprits, who conspired against Mashal Khan, were still not arrested and added that legislation was required to stop recurrence of such incidents in future.

Former deputy speaker of the National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi, PPP leader Hidayatullah Khan, Senator Sardar Ali Khan and Salim Khan Advocate were also presentonthe occasion.
