Man with first wife and son burns second wife

OKARA: A woman was allegedly beaten and burned by her husband, his first wife, and their son over a financial dispute in Dipalpur.

According to the first information report (FIR), Saima Naureen had contracted nikah with Ghulam Farid, of Basti Moeen in Dipalpur, who was already married. The couple had no children and both quarrelled with each other over financial disagreements.

Saima demanded the return of Rs800,000 that her brother had loaned to Farid. She also demanded the return of five tola gold ornaments.

Farid with his first wife Sofia and son Qasim Farid, allegedly beat her and later inflicted burns on both her forearms.

Saima was issued a medico-legal certificate which confirmed her injuries and City Dipalpur police registered a case against the three accused.

ENCOUNTER: Police arrested three armed suspects, including two injured gunmen, after an alleged encounter near `Bala Pul` in the suburbs of village 43/SP.

The police said that on Friday, three armed motorcyclists trued to loot valuables fromMuhammad Abbas, who was driving towards village 43/SP via Basirpur Road. Near Qila Deva Singh, the suspects signaled Abbas to stop, but he sped away to which the gunmen opened fire.

A police night patrol team near Mata Wala railway level crossing was alerted and it rushed to the scene. Near Bala Pul, police exchanged fires with the suspects in which two of the gunmen were injured and arrested, while the third fled. He was later arrested too.

The injured suspects were identified as Rizwan of Minchinabad, Bahawalnagar, and Mushtaq Wattoo, alias Bhuddhi, from Byle Gunj, Pakpattan.

The police recovered firearms, live bullets and an unregistered motorcycle from them. Mushtaq is wanted in 16 cases and Rizwan in 20 cases registered at Okara, Pakpattan and Bahawalnagar police stations.

The third suspect was identified as Iqbal Kharl from village Molia Chishti, and he was carrying an illegal weapon. On thecomplaintbyInspector Muhammad Sarwar, Haveli police registered a case under sections 324, 353, 186, 393, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, along with sections 13-2(a) and 20 of the Punjab Arms Ordinance, 1965.
