KARACHI: A man and his young son were killed in an armed attack inside their home in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Monday evening. The man`s six-year-old daughter was injured in the attack which police linked to the deadly Lyari gang warfare that had already claimed the lives of his three sons overthe pastone year.

Gulshan SP Ghulam Murtaza Bhutto said the gunmen had opened fire on 60-year-old Mohammed Ali, his son Asif, 30, and daughter Zara at their flat near Jauhar Mor and fled. They were taken to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced the father and the son dead. The girl sustained a bullet wound in her leg and her condition was out of danger, the SP said.

He said initial investigation revealed that Mohammed Ali belonged to Lyari and shifted to Gulistan-i-Jauhar on a temporary basis, adding that he believed that the victim had an enmity with gangsters that had claimed the lives of his three sons.

Sharea Faisal SHO Asrar Afridi told Dawn that the deceased had enmity with the gangsters linked with Arshad Pappu gang and police suspected its involvement in the double murder.

Sindh Inspector General of Police A.D. Khowaja took notice of the incident and sought an immediate inquiry report from the DIG East, said a police spokesperson.

Mohammed Ali`s three sons Kashif, Ashig and Saqib had been kidnapped and gunned down in Old Golimar in September last year.

Their bodies were found in Shershah and Gulbahar areas, Site SP Asif Ahmed Bughio said.

He pointed out that Asif, who was killed on Monday, had been shot at and wounded in an `encounter` with Rangers in Old Golimar last year.

He had lost both his legs in the incident. The SP said the deceased had links with gangs and were once associated with the Arshad Pappu gang.

Police sources said two suspects allegedly involved in killing Mohammed Ali`s three sons in Old Golimar were arrested by Pak Colony police a few days ago. The suspects, identified as Imam Bux and Naveed alias Waja, were arrested by law enforcement personnel on information reportedly provided by Asif.

The sources said Mohammed Ali and his son Asif might have been gunned down by gangsters in `reaction` to the arrest of their accomplices.
