Pendency of cases in SC declines

ISLAMABAD: The pendency of cases in Supreme Court of Pakistan continues to decline.

According to a press release, a decline of 1,182 cases was observed in the backlog in the last four months.

The apex court last week, ending on June 10, disposed of 568 cases whereas the institution of cases was 183; thereby reducing the backlog by further 385 cases.

It stated that Supreme Court being cog-nizant of pendency and backlog of cases will be functioning with the maximum strength at the principal seat as well as the branch registries to dispense justice to the public at large during the summer spell that is commencing from June 13.

In the first week of summer, four benches have been constituted; three at the principal seat and one at the Karachi branch registry with two larger benches on June 13 and 14.

The same routine will be followed during the summer in the current year.
