TAXILA: A robber was shot dead while his accomplice was injured during a `shootout with police` on Wednesday, police said.
The police spokesperson claimed that the suspect was killed and his gang member was injured by his own accomplices during an exchange of fire.
Soon after the incident, senior police officers also rushed to the spot.
The injured and body of the deceased were shifted to a hospital for post-mortem and circumstantial evidence was collected from the crime scene. A case was registered on behalf of the state.
The police spokesman said that local police responded to a call on police helpline 15 about a robbery in which three masked persons riding on a motorcycle snatched cash and mobile from a man and were on the run.
Police acting promptly, intercepted the suspects and during shoot out one of the suspects waskilled and other was injured with the firing of own accomplice. The dead was identified as Abdul Rauf and the injured was identified as Muneebur Rehman.
`The search for the escaped criminal was underway as different teams were constituted to trace them,` the spokesman added.
Police spokesman said that the suspects were also involved in killing a 17-yearold boy Saifullah during a robbery on Jewan road on Friday (June 7) when he along with his friend was returning home after offering Friday prayers.
Later people of the area blocked inter provincial TaxilaHattar road for hours to register their protest over growing lawlessnessin the area.
Police officials on this occasion have assured the angry and charged protesters that the culprits involved in the bloody robbery incident would be brought to justice.

Taking notice of the issue, the Chief officer suspended these officials and ordered a departmental inquiry against them under Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability Act 2006.
When contacted assistant commissioner Fatehjang MsAnza Abbasi confirmed that the two employees of the TMA were suspended and an inquiry had been initiated against them due to their alleged corrupt practices.
