Suspected rapist of child remanded in police custody

KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Thursday remanded a suspect in a case pertaining to alleged rape of a seven-year-old girl in Orangi Town.
Police claimed to have arrested a man, who was caught by area residents after he allegedly abducted the child and subjected her to rape in the hilly area of Rahim Shah Colony.
The investigating officer produced him before the judicial magistrate concerned and stated that the child was playing outside her home in Rahim Shah Colony in Sector 11 of Orangi Town on Wednesday, when the suspect abducted her to some deserted area, where he subjectedher to sexual assault.
He further said that the victim`s f ather with a mob caught the suspect, who was an unmarried resident of the same area.
The IO said the medical examination of the child was conducted which suggested that she was subjected to rape. He claimed that the suspect was arrested on the same charge in 2013, but was released. Therefore, he asked for physical remand of the suspect in police custody for 14 days to complete the investigation and other legal formalities.
The judicial magistrate, however, remanded the suspect in police custody for four days and directed the IO to produce him on the next date of hearing with a progress report.
