`Vaccination refusals a big challenge in polio eradication`

KARACHI: Commissioner of Karachi Saleh Faroogi on Thursday said convincing parents who were still refusing to inoculate their children against polio was still a `huge challenge`, which could only be overcome with the help of communities inhabiting the city.`Everyone in the society should chip in to save children from this crippling disease,` said the commissioner during a meeting with a delegation of the Karachi Coordination Committee on Eradication of Polio Campaign at his of fice.
The delegation exchanged views over the provincial authorities` efforts in eradicating polio from Sindh, adding that role of communities to achieve thetask of total eradication of the disease was vital.
They agreed that communities` help was significant in reducing the unending refusals f rom parents.
The meeting participants were told that in a recently concluded polio campaign, around 1.9 million children were vaccinated against polio in 174 union councils of the city.
