Tribute to Sadiq Fageer

LARKANA: Paying rich tributes to singer Sadiq Fageer, speakers at a reference held to remember him at the Art Council of Pakistan (ACP) Larkana on Tuesday night termed his death an irreparable loss and titled him as the `Beejar of Sindh whose songs still reverberate in the memory of his admirers, lovers and well wishers.
Poet and writer Dr Alchash Ansari said Sadiq Fageer was a man who despite touching the heights of popularity in singing did never feel proud.
He chose poetry to sing after fully understanding its theme and essence. It was an unusual quality of a singer, he said.
Larkana Commissioner Ghulam Akbar Leghari, who is also chairman of the ACP Larkana, said about friend-ship with the singer: `We played chess together.
Larkana DIG Dr Sain Rakhiyo Mirani said his voice was unique and genuine.
On the occasion, the succession ceremony of Nizkat Ali, grandson of Sadiq Fageer, was performed.
Later, Nizakat Fageer, Rafique Fageer and Ustad Mazhar Ali Khan entertained the audience.
Haider Shahani said he was not only an excellent singer, but also a good human being who preached love and brotherhood while himself facing all odds.
Dr Sakina Gaad, information secretary of the PPP women wing Larkana district, called Sadiq Fageer the `Beejal` of Sindh whose sweet and soft voice coupled with his fine selection of poetry was still fresh in the memories of people.
