BARISAL: Kazi Anwarul Haque, Central Minister for Education, Health, Labour and Social Welfare, said here yesterday [Sept 11] that the Government would shortly introduce the Central Medical Service. Rules and regulations for the service have already been framed, the Minister said. The Minister was addressing a representative gathering of the teachers of local colleges and schools at the Circuit House.

Meanwhile, the Minister said, an official had been appointed to frame rules for the proposed Central Education Service.

President Ayub Khan, he said, was very keen for the introduction of this service with a view to improving the standard of education in the country. He said that the Central Government had undertaken the task of preparing standard books on two subjects, namely National History and Foreign Policy.

Referring to the lack of authentic history of the Muslims of the sub-continent, even after 20 years of Independence, the Minister said that history must be looked at from the national angle. He pointed out that the Muslims of the sub-continent had been played down in the history books. The Minister said that President Ayub Khan was very conscious of this fact and at his initiative the history of the Muslims of Bengal was being written. He said that four volumes of the History of Freedom Movement had earlier been written at the Government`s initiative. A book on Muslim Archaeology in East Pakistan had also been written.

The Minister said that the compilation of the book on history had been entrusted to the Head of the History Department, Dacca University. For the preparation of textbooks on national foreign policy, the Central Government had appointed Dr G.W.

Chowdhury, former Head of the Department of Political Science of the Dacca University as Director-General in the Foreign Ministry with the rank of Joint Secretary, he added.
