KARACHI: Two suspected kidnappers were killed in a shoot-out with police in the Bin Qasim area on Tuesday, officials said.

They said a team of the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC)led by Inspector Ayub Pathan raided a hideout in Bin Qasim on a lead given by detained suspect Abdul Malik, alias Haji. They said the police a few days back had recovered a businessman from the kidnappers, two of whom were killed and one was arrested.

`However, a few of their aides managed to run away in a car of the kidnap victim who was recovered safely,` said an AVCC official. `The police on information gathered after grilling the arrested suspect raided the hideout in Bin Qasim to arrest the remaining suspects and recover the car.

However, the gunmen in the hideout attacked the personnel of our team when they were busy taking positions.

The attack left their own accomplice, Haji, dead, and led to retaliation from the police which triggered an exchange of gunfire.

After the encounter, he said, one of the gunmen was killed, who was later identified as Haider Ali, alias Raju alias Bablu. The killed suspect, he said, was wanted in more than a dozen cases of killing and kidnapping for ransom.

`In 2015, the dead suspect was booked by the SITE-B police station for an encounter with police in which constable Adil Nawaz was killed and constable Sadagat Hussain was injured,` he added.
