2023-09-13
ISLAMABAD: The Interim Education Minister Madad Ali Sindhi on Tuesday took notice of alleged mismanagement and irregularities in Federal Urdu University and constituted a committee to look into its affairs.

The committee will be headed by VC Quaid-i-Azam University Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar with officials of education ministry and Higher Education Commission its members.

The committee is tasked to complete its probe in one week time and furnish its recommendations to interim education minister and chancellor of the universityPresident Dr Arif Alvi.

The Urdu University has been facing financial constraints causing unrest among employees and pensioners. Similarly, the university, despite HEC`s directive to postpone the selection board, conducted a meeting of the selection board.

Earlier, The HEC in its report issued on Jan 22, 2023 highlighted a plethora of irregularities in selection boards advertised in 2013 and 2017.

The HEC in its report shed light on various serious irregularities and missing of official record in the 2021 selection board and had recommended the annulment of the entire process. This report was presented during university senate meeting on Fab 17 this year prompting the chancellor to order an inquiry into the alleged irregularities, nepotism and official misconduct.

Surprisingly, nearly a few months later, the university conducted yet another selection board on Sep 8 and 9, directly contravening clear instructions from the HEC not to do so.

Similarly, there are also allegations of making unauthorised promotions and providing a number of permanent jobs to dozens of new people in recent months by interim leadership of the university. Staff Reporter
