Ban on sale of toy guns sought

CHARSADDA, Oct 12: People from different walks of life here have demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to impose ban on the sale of toy guns.

The demand was made at a public opinion programme `Awami Survey` here at Media Help Centre. Those who spoke on the occasion included Momin Khan, Akhtar Mohammad, PML-N Tangi tehsil general secretary Mohammad Shah, Nek Mohammad and others.

The programme was part of a campaign against the sale and display of toy weapons. On this occasion, the speakers urged people, particularly parents, to persuade their children to say no to useof toy weapons and buy books for their children as knowledge was the biggest weapon in this modern era of science and technology.

They said that people should buy such toys for their children which could develop a sense of creativity among them.

`If we buy educational and creative toys for our children we can lead them to success in future. Today an alarming number of children are playing with toy guns and their parents don`t even know that these toys are connected with their mind and will affect their mentality, said a participant.

The speakers demanded of the provincial government and district adminis-tration to take immediate measures to stop the sale and purchase of toy guns, which were easily available in Charsadda and other parts of the province. They said that the government should make legislation to ban the sale of toy weapons.

When contacted, Charsadda DPO Shafiullah Khan said that nobody would be allowed to sell toy guns in the district.

However, the speakers urged the district authorities to impose section 144 for han on the sale and display of toy guns.

They also demanded legal action against shopkeepers involved in this business.
