Body made to demarcate Kauray Khan Trust land

MULTAN: A meeting convened on the direction of the Supreme Court on Monday, to develop ways and means for effective control and management of the property donated by Sardar Kauray Khan Jatoi in Muzaffargarh for the welfare of the district, made a committee for the demarcation of the trust land and get vacated the occupied property.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court -Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Justice Qazi Faez Isa -directed the provincial government to convene a meeting of the chief secretary, the local government secretary, the Auqaf chief administrator and the additional advocate general of Punjab to develop ways to manage the property.

The court in its order on Sept 22 stated that since this was a huge property yielding huge income, its effective management was necessary, and directed the provincial government to convene a meeting of the officials.

The bench directed the government to consult applicants advocates Muzaffar Husain Magsi and Mansoor Ahmed Shah.

`Since the matter requires a thorough brainstorming, we give one-month time to do the needful and to submit a report,` the court concluded.

Mr Magsi told Dawn the meeting decided to make a committee consisting of district coordination officers and district police officers of Rajanpur and Muzaffargarh besides advocate Shah and others as the trust land was located in both districts.

He said the committee would demarcate the land and get vacated the illegally occupied property. He said the meeting also discussed the cases lodged against the delinquents, including the revenue department officials.

The plaintiffs in their petition stated that Mr Jatoi bequeathed 83,000 kanals for the welfare of the public of Muzaffargarh but the land was being mismanaged by the government officials.

The Supreme Court directed the Muzaffargarh district and sessions court judge to make a thorough probe into the entire matter relating to a huge chunk of 10,000 acres by the late Jatoi. The judge recommended action against the negligent people.

SELF-IMMOLATED: A man allegedly attempted selfimmolation on Monday in protest at the attitude of the staff of revenue and police departments.

Shahbaz Khan, of Araywala, set himself on fire and was admitted to Nishtar Hospital.

He told reporters he took the extreme step to protest the demolition of his two houses by revenue and police departments. He said the revenue staff also got registered cases against him.

According to doctors, he suffered more than 90 per cent burn injuries. He was shifted to the intensive care unit.

City Police Officer Azhar Akram said he had appointed SSP investigation to probe the issue.

He said he had also requested the district coordination officer to assign an official of the revenue department to help the SSP in investigation.
