Firing at shrine kills one, hurts two

CHARSADDA: Syed Johar Bacha, who belonged to the influential Sadaat family, was killed and two other persons were injured when unknown assailants opened indiscriminate fire on them at the shrine of Mian Syed Noor Baba at Prang Graveyard here on Wednesday.

Syed Ayaz Bacha, son of the slain Johar Bacha, reported to Prang police that his father was present at the shrine when unknown assailants opened fire on him. As a result, he was killed on the spot, while two other persons identified as Gharib Jan of Marchakay and Sajjad of Hassankhel received injuries. The motive behind the killing was yet to be ascertained. The body and injured were taken to DHQ hospital, Charsadda. The police have registered an FIR against unknown attackers.

Johar Bacha was the son of Fazal Haq of Babra, Charsadda. A large number of people of the area reached the hospital soon after the incident.

In another incident, unknown assailants killed Anwar Gul in the limits of city police station. One Khiasta Gul told police that unknown persons called his son from his house, killed him and threw his body in the fields. He said that they had no enmity with anyone. The police have registered an FIR against unknown attackers.

Meanwhile, hundreds of students and teachers of Government High School No-1 held a protest demonstration against land mafia`s occupation of the school ground.

The protesters, led by school principal Bashir Rabbani, demanded that they be given their ground back. Mr Rabbani said that some elements of land mafia had occupied the school ground and started construction on it. He said that the land mafia was depriving thousands of students from their right to play. The enraged students demanded immediate action to remove control of land mafia from the area.

Assistant commissioner Agha Sher Zaman reached the site and asked tehsildar to submit documents from both sides so as to decide about ownership of the land.
