SIALKOT: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Dr Asif Tufail says the Punjab government has declared Sialkot a model district and allocated Rs60 billion for its socio-economic and human development.
He said at a meeting with exporters at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on Thursday.
The district will get new sewerage and water supply lines, an overhead bridge at Sublime Chowk.
The DCO added Rs5.6 million were being spent on the repair and renovation of the Anwaar Club Auditorium. He did not reveal other projects.
The DCO urged the exporters to come forward and adopt government schools and wards in hospitals for providing better education and health facilities to students and patients.
SCCI President retired Major Mansur Ahmed stressed the need for establishing strong relations between the district administration and businessmen for hurdle-free socio-economic and human development of Sialkot.
He said that the exporters of Sialkot were `roaming ambassadors of Pakistan`, who fetched business from the world over and with their personal efforts, the export earnings of Sialkot stood at $2 billion annually.
ROAD SAFETY: Trafficpolice held a seminar to spread awareness on traffic rules and road safety at Daska on Thursday.
The speakers stressed the need of lectures in all public and private schools and colleges on traffic and safety on roads.
Speaking on the occasion, MNA Syed Iftikharul Hassan urged the parents and teachers to play their role to stop the underage driving and wheelie. He said the people should be educated and sensitised to the importance of traffic rules for ensuring road safety.
MPA Asif Bajwa asked the traffic police to visit the government schools and colleges for educating the students on traf fic rules.
DSP (Traffic) Sialkot Muhammad Waseem Akhtar said the traffic rules were made to safeguard lives on roads and they should be followed. He said the police had already launched traffic education programme in all the educational institutions in Sialkot district for promoting the implementation of traffic rules. He said the senior police officers were giving lectures to students and teachers in the summer camps being held at schools and colleges.
Daska Bar Association President Nazir Ahmed Dhilloun and Assistant Commissioner Rao Suhail Akhtar also spoke. Later, the participants held a walk to promote awareness on the traffic rules. The walk began from the Bank Road and culminated at the Civil Rest House Chowlc Daska.
