All illegal immigrants, not Afghans alone, should be deported: PPP leader

By Our Staff Correspondent 2023-11-13
HYDERABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh Information Secretary and a former senator Ajiz Dhamra has said all illegal immigrants including Afghans living in Sindh should be deported to their home countries.

He said that [veteran party leader] Farhatullah Babar`s move to approach Supreme Court was his individual act, and nothing to do with party`s policy.

He was speaking a news conference inlocal press club on Sunday.

He said that opponents were now trying to create a narrative against PPP on Afghans` repatriation issue because they had lost all narratives.

PPP wanted repatriation of all illegal immigrants, including Afghans, he categorically stated, and added that those registered under `refugee` status should be dealt with in accordance with law.

He said Farhatullah Babar had moved the apexcourt ontheissuebuthisstance did not reflect PPP`s policy.

`All illegal immigrants living here, be it Afghans or others, should be deported.

Now when the situation has improved and peace has returned to Afghanistan, Kabul should also make efforts to receive the refugees back from Pakistan,` he argued.

He clarified that party leadership while discussing Afghans` repatriationdidn`t oppose this decision of the caretaker government. He said the PPP cochairman, while expressing his views re cently in Ghotki, had urged the Afghan government to expedite the process of rehabilitation of Afghans returning home.

He pointed out that PPP would hold a big public meeting in Mithi and join Diwali celebrations on Nov 13 (today).

Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari would start his visit to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Nov 16, he said.

`The Nov 13 public meeting would be Mirpurkhas division-specific, but it would break all records of political falsas held in the country so far,` he said, adding that PPP`s founding day programme would be held in Quetta.

Ajiz Dhamra said it was PPP that had been demanding timely elections and that`s why Feb 8 was announced as thedate for polls under apex court`s directives.

He said PPP anticipated that the schedule for elections would also be announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

He said PPP welcomed formation of an alliance against it in Sindh because it was a healthy political activity. He said that opponents knew that they needed to form alliances to fight PPP because otherwise it was impossible for them to beat PPP.

He said PPP hoped the Feb 8 elections would not be a repeat of the 2018 polls when the result transmission system (RTS) had failed. He said PPP would accept the mandate of the winning party and it hoped vice versa as well. He sarcastically said that a group of people, who were `jobless`, were holding meetings for an anti-PPP alliance.
