LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed on Tuesday to have arrested three suspects involved in illegal kidney transplants.
FIA Anti-Corruption Circle team led by Assistant Director Nadeem Akhtar arrested nephrologist Dr Shehbaz Malik from Gujrat and two other suspects – Shehzad and Ibrar Husain – from Rawalpindi.
Investigation revealed that Dr Shehbaz was conducting illegal transplants while Shehzad was involved in referring patients to his clinic for treatment.
It was further revealed that Shehzad was working for an international kidney transplant gang and also involved in searching for the “paid donors”.
The third suspect, Ibrar Husain, is a lab attendant and was allegedly involved in conducting tests of the “donors” before selling their organs and facilitating the prime suspect, Dr Shehzad.
