Muqam urges Imran to revisit stance on Taliban

MINGORA: Adviser to the Prime Minister and PML-N Central Senior Vice President Engineer Amir Muqam on Monday urged Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan to revisit his stand on the Taliban and support the government in its struggle against terrorism.
Talking to reporters at his residence here in Sangota, Mr Muqam said he was in favour of dialogue with militants but the Taliban should understand that they could not come to power by carrying out terroristattacks.
He said the nation should get together to fight terrorism.
`Imran Khan should review his position towards the Taliban. Instead of saying words in their support, he (Imran Khan) should support the government in its ongoing struggle against terrorism in the country,` he said.
The adviser to the prime minister said he had survived six terrorist attacks during the last few years but was not afraid of terrorism and would continue serving the people in the country.
He said the FIR lodged by police against the three local residents over the Sunday terrorist attack on him was a joke.
`FIR should be registered against those, who have claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack on him,` he said.
Mr Amir Muqam said provision of security to the people, including him, was the responsibility of the provincial government.`Those celebrating withdrawal of army troops from Shangla and Buner districts should fulfil their responsibility of providing security to the people,` he said.
Meanwhile, funeral of the three police officials, who died in the attack on Amir Muqam on Sunday, was offered here at Police Lines, Mingora.
Mr Amir Muqam, the deputy inspector general, Malakand, senior police officials and PML-N leaders attended the funeral.
Later, the bodies of the three were shifted to their ancestral towns.
Police station of Martong in Shangla registered an FIR against three residents of Balgram area of the district over the terrorist attack on Amir Muqam.
GAS LEAK CLAIMS LIFE: A local health official died of gas leak on Monday morning in Rahimabad area of Swat district.His wife suffered injures and was shifted to Saidu hospital.
According to police, the deceased, Syed Ali Khan, was a laboratory assistant.
RALLY FOR COMPENSATION: Residents of Koza Bandai in Kabal tehsil on Monday took out a rally against non-payment of compensation outside the Swat Press Club.
Led by Jamaat-i-Islami leader Rashid Ahmad Swati, protesters were shouting slogans against the government.
Speakers, including Rashid Ahmad, Mohammad Ayaz and elders of Koza Bandai, said their properties had suffered huge losses due to militancy but compensation had been denied to them a long period.
`If the government doesn`t meet our demand without delay, then we will be left with no choice but to stage a sit-in in Peshawar for the denied right,` a speaker said.
