`Academic triangle` to be created in south Punjab: Ghazi VC

DERA GHAZI KHAN: After three years of establishment, the Ghazi University has got its first regular vice chancellor (VC), who vowed to strive to create an `academic triangle` in south Punjab, including Ghazi, Bahauddin Zalcaria University (BZU) and Islamia University Bahawalpur, for improvement in quality of education for students and experience for faculty.

Prof Dr Khalique Ahmed has 35 years of experience in teaching. He presented his vision and plans to bring the standards of Ghazi University up to a global level.

Talking to the media, he said an `academic triangle` of south Punjab comprising Ghazi University, BZU Multan and Islamia University Bahawalpur would be formed. There would be an exchange of faculty and students for advanced learning and improvement in professional skills.

The vice chancellor told the media a `governor`s class room` would be established that would be equipped with modern information technology forholding seminars and lectures by dignitaries. He said the university would send its faculty and selected students to Turkey instead of Europe for meeting international standards of education and research.

A `peace and justice club` would also be formed to promote tolerance among faculty and students. The club would create a harmonious and learning-friendly atmosphere in the university, he added.

Prof Ahmed said huts would be constructed in the university where students and teachers could share ideas freely to eliminate generation gap. He also said Ghazi University Foundation had been set up to glean extra resources for the varsity and to help poor and needy students continue their education.

Responding to questions, Vice Chancellor Prof Ahmed said departments of archaeology, mass communication, college of art and design, anthropology, geology and psychology would soon be established at the university.

He said the university would commence mobile classroom system to educate people of Dera Ghazi Khan tribal area who did not have proper resources.
