BAHAWALPUR: Five persons, including women and children, of a family died and three others suffered serious injuries when a container loaded on a trailer fell on a parked car they were occupying at Musafirkhana Adda, about 30kms from here late on Sunday night.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the trailer first hit the car (No BRM-3536) parked in front of a shop, after which a container loaded on the vehicle fell on it.

As a result, five persons, identified as Shahzia (40), Sumaiyan Qasim (28), Hafsa (14), Hamna (9) and Zain (8), died. In the incident, three others Asif (34), Ayesha(30) and Huzaifa (12), were seriously injured.

Dawn has learnt that the deceased and injured persons were residents of nearby Faiz Colony, Musafirkhana. The bodies and the injured persons were retrieved after cutting the badly-damaged frame of the car by the rescuers and Musafirkhana police personnel, reaching the spot on being informed of the incident.

The injured persons were shifted to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH), where bodies of the deceased were also transported.

Police official reached the scene to take the legal action against the trailer`s driver.

The funeral prayers for the deceased, attended by a large number of people, were later offered in a cotton factory, after which they were buried in a local graveyard.
