TAXILA: Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan on Monday attributed continuity of democracy in the country to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), saying the party`s chairperson, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, had taken the initiative and issues were resolved amicably when the passage of the 26th amendment was critical.
Addressing a gathering of PPP workers in Fatehjang, the governor said only Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari was capable of steering the country out of the present problems, adding that the country needed Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as prime minister.
Calling for a change in the country`s leadership, he stressed the importance of youth-led governance.
`The nation needs young and dynamic leadership to tackle modern challenges and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari had the credentials of such a leadership,` he added.
Sardar Saleem Haider also highlighted the PPP`s long-standing dedication to the rights of the underprivileged and middle-class masses and emphasised the pivotal role played by the PPP in shaping the country`s political landscape.
`PPP remains the only political party in Pakistan that consistently raises its voice for the rights of the poor and the marginalised,` he said. `We will have to mobilise our die-hard supporters and workers across the province to revive the PPP in the Punjab,` he added.
Governor Haider said the PPP believed in politics of service and always worked for the welfare of people, adding that despite difficulties, `our leadership made sacrifices to promote unity and solidarity in the country`.
He also talked about PPP-introduced programmes like the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), which had become a source of sustenance for countless families across the Pakistan.
`We don`t just promise change, we deliver it through concrete initiatives for betterment of the society,` he added.
Reflecting on the recent political climate, Governor Saleem Haider justified PPP`s alliance with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
`The partnership with PML-N was formed in the interest of national stability and development. It was a difficult but a crucial decision to ensure progress and stability in the country,` he added.
