RAWALPINDI: A police official was shot and injured by unidentified motorcycle riders and managed to escape firing gunshots creating panic and fear in the Westridge police area on Sunday night.

The police have registered a case against the two unidentified motorcycle riders under section 7Anti Terrorism Act (7-ATA) and other relevant sections of the law and launched a search for the culprits.

Foot constable Abdul Jabbar lodged an FIR with the police saying that he and constable Zubair Saleem were patrolling in the area on motorcycle on Sunday night and were doing random checking of vehicles.

He said that while they were patrolling in the area, they signaled a motorcycle rider on suspicion. Instead of responding to the police, the motorcycle riders opened fire on the police patrol.

As a result, he was injured after being hit by a bullet fired by the motorcycle riders. However, Zubair responded to the gunmen in the same manner.

The motorcycle riders tried to speed off on their motorcycle, but it could not start and they had to escape on foot. Police said panic and fear gripped the area due to firing.

Meanwhile, City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani on Monday visited the City Traffic Police Headquarters.

During his visit the CPO visited various branches and reviewed the facilities provided to the citizens.

Police spokesman said that the CPO also inspected the new driving simulator being added to the driving school and showed interest in modern technology and gave instructions to extend the driving simulator to other drivinglicence centres.

During the visit to the One Window Licensing Hall, the CPO reviewed the facilities provided to citizens and issued orders for immediate solution of citizens problems.

The CPO also inspected the driving licence road test track and gave instructions to further improve its quality.

The CPO took individual briefings from the branch in-charges at the Traffic Headquarters and issued instructions.

CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani appreciated the steps taken by the Chief Traffic Officer Beenish Fatima for the convenience ofthe citizens.
