Protesters block motorway against woman`s murder in robbery

TOBA TEK SINGH: Locals blocked traffic late on Sunday on the motorway near the Samundri interchange on the Lahore-Abdul Hakim section for more than one hour after a woman was shot dead over resistance by a robber near a motorway underpass in Faisalabad`s Mureedwala police jurisdiction.

They set on fire tyres on both sides of the road and demanded early arrest of the killer.

Later, a Faisalabad SP and the Samundri DSP held talks with the protesters and assured them that the culprit would be arrested at the earliest, over which they ended their protest.

Complainant Mushtaq Ahmad claimed his niece Sajida Parveen and her husband Farooq were riding a motorcycle when near the M-3 underpass of Chak 479-GB, a gunman intercepted them and killed the woman.

ACCIDENT: Two persons died and as manyothers were injured as a result of a head-on collision between two motorcycles on Sunday night at Jhang near Rustam Sargana on Maddoki Road.

According to Rescue 1122, the deceased were identified as Zarina Bibi and Hasina Bibi, while both wounded included Jaffar Ali and his wife Sidra Bibi. They were shifted to the DHQ Hospital POLICE: The Jhang`s Kotwali police registered a case on Monday against 15 people, including three Jhang DHQ hospital ward servants and a hospital`s Khidmat Centre employee, for issuing fake medical fitness certificates to driving license seekers by using the fake stamps of an eye specialist at the hospital.

Complainant Dr Riffat Abbas claimed in his FIR registered under sections 420, 478 and 471 of the PPC that he was deputed to issue medical fitness certificates by the medical superintendent of police after examining applicants for driving licences, but he came toknow that his duplicate stamp and fake signatures were being made on certificates by the gang that extorted money from applicants.

They included ward servants Nadeem, Azhar and Suleman, Khidmat Centre employee Abdul Majeed, and their gang`s 11 private members. So far, no arrests have been made.

MATCH: A match was played between the Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) and Shahbaz Senior Hockey Academy organised by the Directorate of Sports of the GCUF on Monday.

The chief guest of the match was Pakistan`s famous former hockey player Shehbaz Senior and General Secretary of Asia Handball Federation Chaudhry Muhammad Shafiq.

Shehbaz Senior gave guidance to the players regarding hockey and appreciated their playing style.

Earlier, he met with GCUF VC Prof Dr Shahid Kamal and discussed measures for the promotion of extra-curricular activities, especially hockey, in the university.
