TOBA TEK SINGH: Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology (FIC)Medical Superintendent of Dr Muhammad Nadeem Akhtar was removed from his office on Thursday on charge of inefficiency.

The notification added that the FIC`s pharmacist Dr Noman Ali had been terminated from service under the same charge. A notification issued by the secretary specialised healthcare and medical education explains the reason for the action.

Meanwhile, Punjab Minister for Specialized Health Khawaja Salman Rafique visited on Thursday FIC along with Secretary Specialized Health Azmat Mahmood and presided over a meeting there.

Addressing the meeting, the minister said immediate steps were being taken to meet the shortage of doctors at the hospital and vacancies of doctors, including senior registrars and associate professors, would be filled soon. He added that postgraduate trainees, including medical officers, would be posted at the hospital, beds in the ICU would be connected with ventilators while making the PediatricCardiac Surgery Unit fully functional.

The minister said the CM was taking steps to increase the capacity of cardiology hospitals and observed that medical facilities provided to heart patients in other departments, including the ward on the fourth floor.

Executive Director Dr Hamid Saeed and Commissioner Maryam Khan briefed him about the facilities needed at the FIC.

SUICIDE: A youth committed suicide after a girl`s parents rejected his proposal at Rehmat Town locality on Gojra Road in Toba.

Reports said Muhammad Waqar wanted to marry his cousin and after refusal of her parents, he called the girl and told her that he was going to commit suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan.

She immediately informed her parents.

When the boy`s parents broke the door of his room he had already died.

FEST: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) is holding the 10th Lyallpur Art and Literature Festival from Feb 17 to 20.

Spokesperson for the UAF said Vice Chancellor Dr Sarwar Khan has constituted committees for arrangements of the festival. A large number of students and visitors are expected to attend the event.
