PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak said on Monday that 4,000 megawatts electricity would be included in the system by February 2018 through hydel power projects.
Presiding over a meeting here at Chief Minister`s House, he said that various projects of hydel power generation were in process that would generate 4,000 megawatts electricity. Wapda chairman, Senior Member Board of Revenue, administrative secretaries and others were also present in the meeting.
The chief minister said Munda Dam would protect the entire Peshawar valley from future floods.
He directed the officials concerned to expedite process of land acquisition for Bhasha and Dasu dams and work out a plan to manage and run Pehure project.
Mr Khattak directed the officials concerned to extend regulatory framework for all natural water flow streams throughout the province.
He asked the quarters concerned to evolve a workable mechanism for management of Pehure project.
On the occasion, the Wapda chairman said that provincial government should firm up its claims for additional electricity to be brought to the national system in the overall net hydel profit to avert any uneasiness in future.
The meeting was informed about the dispute over issue of land acquisition for Dasu Dam in areas such as Sagloo, Zaal and Kass of Kohistan. Mr Khattak directed the officials to find a reasonable solution to the problems and extend incentives to the local people. He also ordered proper relocation of the affected people.
The chief minister asked for upgradation of system in Chitral so that the electricity, produced through different projects as being negotiated with FWO, could be carried out by the upgraded system. The Wapda chairman assured him of cooperation in this regard.
Mr Khattak said that Chashma Lift Canal Scheme was approved in the context of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. APP
