PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Special Apex Committee has decided to launch crackdown on unregistered Afghan nationais in the province.

The committee was convened on Monday to review the security situation and progress of the operation Raddul Fasad in KP.According to sources, while responding to provincial government`s query about the fate of unregistered Afghans, the apex committee called for arresting them under section 14 of Foreigners` Act and to deport them to their native country.

It is to mention here that the federal government has allowed Afghan refugees having legal documents to stay in the country until Dec 31, 2017.

According to an ISPR statement issued here, Chief of Army Staff Gen QamarJaved Bajwa attended the meeting as special participant while civil and military officials, including governor and chief minister and corps commander Peshawar, were also in attendance.

The statement said the meeting appreciated the efforts of army, intelligence and law enforcement agencies in the fight against terrorism, and pledged to make concerted efforts to ensure effective implementation of NAP.

The meeting acl(nowledged the tremen-dous work done by all the stakeholders in rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons, and noted that 89 per cent IDPs had already returned to their homes and 93 per cent of Fata had been de-notified.

Issues emanating from the presence of Afghan refugees and matters related to improved border management also came under discussion.

The forum also discussed measures to facilitate process for mainstreaming Fata.
