LAHORE: The south Punjab secretariat will establish model streets in three big cities of the region by ensuring cleanliness and beautification.
Steps have been taken to establish model streets in Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan.
In the first phase, it has been decided to convert Jilani Road in Multan into a model road and a private organisation Multan Natural Sheep Casing Association will provide funds for the project.
A delegation, led by Multan Natural Sheep Casing Association`s president Ramzan Bhatta, met Additional Secretary Coordination Farooq Dogar in his office on Monday. Traders Mian Abrar Ahmed, Javed Qureshi, Muhammad Kamran and Amir Javed were part of the delegation. Manager Operations Multan Waste Management Company Anwarul Haq was also present in the meeting.
Mr Dogar said Jilani Road would be converted into a model road in terms of cleanliness and beautification.
He said the community would be mobilised to plant trees along both sides of the road and Multan Waste Management Company would depute special staff to ensure cleanliness of the road and dust bins would be installed at different places.
He said Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) would prepare the road renovation design.
Mr Dogar has appealed to the citizens to come forward and support the government in making their streets clean and beautiful. He said the citizens who would throw trash on the road would also be punished.
