Police arrest `injured` robber after crossfire

KASUR: The police arrested an alleged robber in injured condition after an encounter with a gang of robbers on Monday near the village of Sarhali in the jurisdiction of Mustafabad police.

This is the sixth incident in recent weeks in which the police arrested an injured robber after an exchange of fire between the cops and bandits. None of the cop was injured during any encounter with the robbers.

According to the police, Muhammad Khalid informed the police that four robbers snatched his motorcycle and cash. Following information, the police reached the crime scene and chased thegunmen, who opened indiscriminate fire at the police, which was retaliated against.

When the guns went silent, the police recovered an injured robber, while three of his accomplices fled. The injured was rushed to the DHQ Hospital.

The robber was identified as Tanvir, alias Kodo, wanted by the Kasur police in over 20 cases of robbery, murder during a robbery and other heinous crimes. The police are after the remaining robbers.

PROTEST: Scores of members of civil society, traders, students, and lawyers took out a rally on Monday against the decision of the primary and secondary health secretary to merge the Chunian cardiac centre and the THQ hospital into one.The participants, carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans, gathered outside the cardiac centre.

Anjuman Tajran President Sufi Muhammad Hanif and Chemists Association President Manzoor Ahmed demanded that the chief minister cancel the orders of the secretary in the larger interest of the public.

After public pressure against the merging orders, local politicians, including MNA Rana Muhammad Ishaq and former MPA Sheikh Allauddin, also joined the rally and assured the participants that orders would be cancelled.

Mr Allauddin said he would call the secretary to visit the health facility to upgrade it.
