APROPOS a story published on March 31, 2017, under the headline `Proposed changes in law for top KPEC appointment stir controversy` Dawn wishes to clarify that the proposal for introducing amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Ombudsman Act (KPPOA), 2010 was first mooted and decided at a Forum of Pakistan Ombudsman`s meeting held on March 15, 2015, before the incumbent ombudsman took charge on Sept 22, 2015.
According to the ombudsman`s secretariat, the incumbent ombudsman upon assuming the of fice on Sept 22, 2015 initiated steps to strengthen such of fice and one step taken after apprising the-then chief secretary of the Forum of Pakistan Ombudsman`s decision was to accelerate the process to finalise draft amendments to restore the repealed provisions of the KP Provincial Ombudsman Act, 2010, and add provisions similar to those contained in the Federal Ombudsman Institutional Reforms Act, 2013.
