THIS is with reference to the article `Jamiat`s Stranglehold` by Irfan Alam (Eos, April, 9) Mr Aslam seems to belong to the class of negligible secular forces who always damaged the cause of integrity and ideology of Pakistan. Of course, the Jamiat was created with the inspiration derived from the literature of Syed Abul A`la Moududi, who preached the true meaning of `Islam` which is not limited to observance of religious rituals but is a complete and balanced code of life.

Religious rituals are part of training toprepare a group of dedicated Muslims who will make their best effort to establish an Islamic way of life.

The presentstudents`unrestthroughout Pakistan, and particularly, in Punjab University, is primarily due to the non-revival of students unions. In the absence of students unions, which can channel students` energy, various student organisations have chosen their own way to express themselves, resulting in chaos on the campus.

In referring to the March 21 violence on the Punjab University Campus, Mr Aslam has narrated his own version which many media and the social media negate. Mr Aslam`s assertion that Muti-ur-Rehman Nizami was hanged by the Bangladesh regime due to his creation of Al-Badr and Al-Shams for spreading terror is a very shameful accusation.

The fact is that most Bangladeshis love Pakistan and if fair elections are held today, the pro-Islamic groups having love for Pakistan are sure to win. However, Bangladesh was created under an international conspiracy led by the Indian insurgency through a gang of armed militants known as Mukti Bahini.

Memebrs of the Jamiat, being young people, have done some excesses but there are checks and balances in the Jamiat itself. The Jamiat `Shura` undertakes corrective measures where needed. Many people openly admit that the Jamiat is the saviour for girl students. Jamiat protects their dignity and saves them from hooliganism and moral distortion in the name of cultural programme. The Islami Jamiat Tulaba is the defender of Pakistan.

This has been proven time and again.
