Gas shortage

2025-04-14
IN many parts of Karachi, low pressure and natural gas shortages have become a recurring problem. It was worse during Ramazan, but it has not been fully restored to pre-Ramazan schedule yet, causing a tremendous strain on the people.

In certain areas, the gas supply is totally cut off at night. People now struggle every day to meet their basic necessities as a result of these erratic supply disruptions.

For a metropolis as large and significant as Karachi, such difficulties reveal a catastrophic lack of planning as well as administration. Despite repeated complaints from the public, there seems to be no concrete action taken to ensure an uninterrupted gas supply.

The lack of alternative energy sources exacerbates the issue, and puts the populace in a difficult situation. Families struggle daily to make meals, companies suffer, and overall productivity drops owing to this persistent dilemma.

Our public service departments` apparent emphasis on upsetting the lives of the people rather than coming up with workable answers is worrisome. We recognise that the demand for gas is greater than the supply, but why is the government not switching to more sustainable options, like solar andbiogas? Alternative energy solutions have been successfully adopted by many nations dealing with comparable issues, yet we still rely on antiquated systems that cannot keep up with the demands of an expanding population.

The relevant authorities should act now to guarantee a steady supply of natural gas and tolookinto other energy sources rather than depending entirely on one.
