ECP calls for educating women about importance of vote

SHANGLA: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Election Commissioner Peer Maqbool Ahmed has urged the local government representatives, civil society and media to play their positive role in educating people, particularly women, about the importance of vote.
He made the call while addressing a meeting of the Voter Education Committee here on Saturday.
Additional deputy commissioner Shangla Mohammad Fayaz Khan, EC spokesperson Sohail Ahmed, district election commissioner Abdul Qadir Khan, election officer Saifur Rehman, local government representatives, mediapersons and notables were in attendance.
`As 50 per cent population of the country is consisting of women their role in development is also significant. The ECP and Nadra will have to focus on the areas where women have not yet been registered as voters, so they are not deprived of their right to vote,` he emphasised.
He urged the committee members to deliver the message of election commission to every house in the district.
The KP election commissionerwas also briefed on the upcoming local government by-elections scheduled for May 17 in three village councils of the district. He expressed satisfaction over the arrangements.
For the by-polls, Abdul Qadir has been appointed district returning officer and Saifur Rehman election officer.
PML-N LEADER TO JOIN PTI: Special assistant to chief minister on tourism Haji Abdul Munim claims that a PML-N senior leader in Puran tehsil will soon join the PTL Speaking at a meeting in Alpuri on Saturday, the MPA claimed that scores of political activists from various parties, especially the PML-N, from Aloch area of Puran would join PTI on May 18 at a political gathering, which would also be addressed by Chief Minister Pervez Khatak.
