Suppl budget shoots up to Rs107.9bn

LAHORE: The provincial government presented on Monday before the Punjab Assembly the 2015-16 supplementary budget statement which was Rs107,981,619,000 (Rs107.9 billion) more than the 2014-15 supplementary budget statement.

Development, relief, state trading in food grains and sugar, besides agriculture demands remained atop the 2015-16 supplementary budget statement of Rs150,934,993,000 (Rs150bn) while the total outlay of 2014-15 supplementary budget statement was Rs42,953,374,000 (Rs42.9bn).

Requiring approval by the provincial legislature, the voted supplementary demands for 2015-16 remained 15 as were for 2014-15 while the minimum or token voted supplementary demands were 22 against 25 for 2014-15.

Approval by the legislature is not required for the charged demands that were presented before the house. Such demands of Rs1,000 each were for general administration, for administration of justice and for interest on debt and other obligations while Rs4,841,363,000 (Rs4.84bn) were for repayment of loans from the federal government.

The minimum or token 2015-16 voted supplementary demands of Rs1,000 each related to opium, registration, charge on account of Motor Vehicles Acts, other taxes and duties, administration of justice, jails and convict settlements, police, museums, education, health services, public health, fisheries, veterinary, industries, miscellaneous departments, communications, housing and physical planning department, stationery and printing, subsidies, miscellaneous, irrigation works and government buildings.
