LAHORE: The laws made by the Punjab government under the National Action Plan against terrorism and extremism are not being implemented by various departments at local and district levels.
This was claimed by the Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO), a collaborator with the Punjab Assembly in the multi-party Parliamentary Working Group (PWG) for peace and sustainable development.
SSDO Executive Director Syed Kausar Abbas told the media here on Thursday that the laws needed to be implemented on an urgent basis to strengthen the peace process and counter violent extremism at local level in Punjab.
He said effective legislative oversight could help improve implementation of laws and gauge the performance of the public offices for improved implementation of laws, and added that the SSDO would provide regular technical support to the members of the Punjab Assembly to strengthen the legislative oversight for building peace and sustainable development.
Various MPAs have filed over 40 questions and resolutions to question the performance of public offices in implementation of laws made under the NAP. The queries are related to implementation of vigilance committees act, curriculum reforms, loudspeaker act, countering hate speech and temporary residents act.
