ISLAMABAD: The Ramna police have solved the murder of Ali Gul Leghari, whose body was found in a wooded area in G-10 on July 1, and arrested the victim`s nephew for the killing, police said in Wednesday.
Ali Leghari`s body was found with a bullet wound to the head and cuts on his neck by passersby who then informed the police.
The body was identified by a relative of the deceased from whom the police learnt the victim was a resident of G-9/2. A murder case was registered against an unknown person.
A team was formed which was led by DSP Ghulam Mohammad Baqir and included SHO Inspector Irshad Ali Abro, SI Mohammad Shafique, and police officers Ansar Ali and Tasaduq Ali. The team`s investigations led them to the nephew of the victim who confessed to killing his uncle by shooting him in the head during a dispute over money.
The police said the victim was a driver at the Ministry of Commerce and that he had sent his nephew Rs6 million when he was stationed in Hong Kong. He was killed when he demanded the money back.
The accused told the police he had cut his uncle`s neck after shooting him and that he then put the body in a sack and dumped it in the wooded area.
The accused then drove the car in which he had transported the body to Chungi No 26 and abandoned it there. The car was also recovered.
The accused was produced in court which awarded the police his physical remand for further investigations.
Senior Superintendent of Police Sajid Kiani appreciated the team`s efforts and announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for them.-Staff Reporter
