By Our Staff Reporter 2023-07-14
LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has reportedly launched a money laundering investigation against the suspects involved in the Punjab University Town-lll housing scam.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has also registered an FIR against Prof Dr Azhar Naeem, Dr Sajid Rashid Ahmed, Dr Mehboob Hussain, Dr Fakhul Haq Noori, and Jamil Anwar (members of the management committee), sub-registrar Rao Ansar, Khursheed (registry muharrar), developer Mian Javed, and Waqar Naeem, a major shareholder of the development company.

`The FIA has initiated a money laundering investigation against the suspects of the PU housing scandal and has summoned them to record their statements,` an official told Dawn. The date of their summoning has not been confirmed.

The management committee had launched the project without the approval of the PU administration and the syndicate. It is alleged that the land acquired in the name of the committee members was illegal, as no NoC from the LDA and other related departments was obtained when the project was launched in Lahore in 2016.

After seven years, the ACE FIR states that the whereabouts of the developed plots are still unknown.

Meanwhile, the ACE has filed charges against former lawmaker Mian Waris Aziz for allegedly accepting bribes from contractors while serving as the chairman of the Faisalabad Development Authority.
