LAHORE: Scores of members of thePakistanPaediatricAssociation (PPA), Punjab, in collaboration with Pahchaan and Child Rights Movement, demonstrated outside the press club on Thursday to condemn the child abuse scandal in Kasur.

PPA`s Dr Asif Kaleem, who led the protest rally, expressed his concern and anguish over sexual abuse of children.

`We condemn the inhuman incidence that has not only tormented around 300 children and their families but also shocked the entire nation,` he said.

Dr Kaleem said it was a matter of concern that these children had been subjected to extreme form of abuse for years by a ring of pedophiles.`It demonstrates not only a failure of law-enforcement agencies and other state institutions but it also poses a big question mark on the ability of the state and society,` he said.

He urged the government to investigate this heinous crime from all angles while perpetrators and their protectors must be brought to justice. He said the victims and their families must be provided every legal and moral support.

`There is an urgent need for psychological therapy and other necessary rehabilitation services,` he said.

Representatives of the PPA and Pahchan offered help in designing and implementation of these services in collaboration with the Child Protection Bureau of Punjab.
