ISLAMABAD: Four young men drowned in Chappar Nullah in the limits of Nilor police station on Sunday.
According to the police, the young men, who were in their early 20s, were residents of Rawalpindi. They had gone to Chappar Nullah to swim where they drowned.
A police official requesting anonymity said among the deceased were two brothers, Ehsan and Arsalan. The other two were identified as Amir and Danish.
“A large number of youngsters visit Chappar Nullah on holidays, not knowing that it is quite dangerous. There is a natural spillway-type slope where people get stuck in the mud,” the police official said.
“It seems that two of the friends got stuck in the mud and the others tried to save them. Local people and officials of Rescue 15 retrieved the bodies,” he said.
Three deceased lived near Committee Chowk while the fourth was from Dhoke Elahi Bux. The official said the parents of the young men had been informed and their bodies would be handed over to them after the necessary procedure,” he said.
