Interim AJK setup ahead of polls proposed

2015-09-14
MUZAFFARABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has demanded installation of an interim setup ahead of next year`s general election in AJK to ensure transparency and credibility.

The party also suggested extension of the jurisdiction of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to AJK.

`Free, fair and transparent polls under the present AJK government are beyond the bounds of possibility and therefore installation of an interim setup ahead of election is indispensable on the pattern of Centre and provinces in Pakistan, said Shah Ghulam Qadir, secretary-general of the PML-N AJK chapter, at a press conference here on Sunday.

Since the AJK Interim Constitution did not provide for installation of such a setup, the PML-N leader maintained that a constitutional amendment should be effected to pave the way for it.

Inst allation of an interim setup was inevit able also be cause the AJK cabinet members were abusing official resources to ensure theirreturn to thelegislature,he alleged.

The PML-N secretary general regretted that the AJK government had not prepared fresh voters` lists through Nadra, despite calls from the opposition.

Mr Qadir alleged that `the Ehtesab Bureau is being headed by a member of the ruling party`s Central Executive Committee who is shielding the corrupt elements, instead`.

`It is therefore we suggest that the so-called AJK Ehtesab Bureau should (be dissolved and) replaced by NAB,` he said.
