MQM lawmaker, others to be indicted on 29th

KARACHI: An antiterrorism court on Wednesday provided copies of documentary evidence to a provincial lawmaker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and four others in a case relating to alleged distribution of CDs cont aining anti-state speeches and fixed Sept 29 for indictment.

MPA Shiraz Waheed, Mobin alias Pakistani, Waqas, Ali Hasan and Naeem Shamshad have been booked along with around 10 absconding accomplices for allegedly distributing CDs, which contained speeches and statements to wage war against the state, among the people in an Ahsanabad locality in August last year.

When the case came up for hearing before ATC-II on Wednesday, the court confirmed interim pre-arrest bail applications of Hasan and Shamshad. The other suspects are already on bail.

The court also provided copies of witnesses` testimonies, charge-sheets and other documents of the prosecution to Eve suspects as required under Section 265-C (supply of statements and documents to accused) of the Criminal Procedure Code and adjourned the hearing until Sept 29.

The case was lodged under Sections 120-B (punishment for criminal conspiracy), 121 (waging or attempting to wage war or abetting waging of war against Pakistan), 123-A (condemnation of the creation of the state and advocacy of abolition of its sovereignty), 124-A (sedition) and 109 (abetment) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act at the SITE Superhighway Industrial Area police station.
