R ECENT LY, a photograph in Dawn`s Metro South showed a man riding a motorbike with five children without giving a thought to the serious consequences for his family.

On Sept. 12, the same newspaper printed a photograph of a f amily of three on a motorbike transporting a satellite dish being held precariously by a woman sitting behind the driver.

Both photographs go to show that those riding motorbikes are not cognisant of the hazards of unsafe driving on congested city roads, particularly when more than two passengers, including children, ride on these bikes.

That said, the administration needs to take immediate measures to stop the practice of unsafe bike riding in cities through public awareness campaigns and by enforcing road and driving regulations that make it mandatory for bike drivers to wear safety helmets and not carry more than one passenger.
